The majority of people that are contemplating the idea of having a new kitchen fitted will be more interested in looking at colour schemes and the new appliances they will purchase and have installed before they consider some basic rules. This is always a mistake in our eyes and any designer will tell you and their advice will always be to take into account the space that is available, so kitchen planning and layouts always proceed everything.

You have plenty of rooms in your house all serving a different and specific purpose, you can easily decorate, move things around and upgrade bedrooms, lounges and hallways, but when it comes down to your kitchen this is not such an easy task to complete. The design and planning element for a kitchen space needs to be organised properly as it will be an expensive venture if you keep changing it around frequently. There are three components that are of prime importance when planning and organising a modern kitchen design. These elements are the positioning of the cooker, your refrigerator and the sink and drainage units. The most effective kitchen designs allow the fluid movement around all three of these kitchen stations, this will make your cooking, cleaning down and retrieval of fresh items from the refrigerator simple tasks, if the locations are close to one another. A kitchen work station triangle works well in any good design.

Turning your kitchen more than a kitchen
Lots of things around us nowadays are multifunctional, so why not your kitchen? In recent years they were just thought as places to prepare food, cook food and washing dishes, but thankfully designers have involved them more into our houses as social meeting spaces, dining and eating areas and sometimes they are allowed to amalgamate into other living areas like the lounge. Open-plan seems very popular these days with central kitchen islands and seated breakfast bars for the family to dine together, with the chef nearby and not feeling alienated.

Think about you kitchen cupboards and storage facilities
It will pay you well to give it some serious thought about where you would like your new units positioned and what items with go into your cupboard spaces. It can be important to think ahead and inform our designer beforehand so they can process this information and design the cupboards and shelving to suit your personal needs. If you do take the time to do this little exercise it will make your kitchen a more usable and enjoyable experience all round after the installation project has been fully completed.

After our kitchen designer has taken all the initial and necessary measurements of the new proposed kitchen area, then their next job will be to prepare CAD design images for your approval, a service our clients love. Our kitchen fitter can show you different options and set-ups that will be available to you. This way you can see and choose the way your cupboards, shelving, worktops, cooker, fridges and colour combinations will work out before the start of the installation.

Preparing your food in your new kitchen.
Try to imagine your worktop surfaces by the side of the cooker, this may be beneficial in moving freshly cut food from the preparation stage and straight to the hob or oven. Another good option is to site worktop prep surfaces near a window to ensure and shed some extra natural light on what you're doing, this can be also a bonus if your kitchen contains a nice view.

Think about the movement around your kitchen area.
Try to give some thought to how you'd move round the new kitchen, as you prepare and cook food. Having your refrigerator situated next to your working area will facilitate your moving of food from the fridge to the surface and then onto the stove or oven with ease. Good to have nearby cabinets and draws installed for that quick retrieval of kitchen utensils and other kitchen gadgets.

Kitchen Storage
When it comes to storage solutions, do you actually need more storage than you current have in your existing kitchen? If so plan ahead in advance for the installation and fitting of those extra cupboards, shelve units or if you have room what about a walk-in pantry style room.

Create Social areas and extra spaces
As most kitchens in UK households are the centre piece to family social life, have you considered incorporating a certain area for seating? It could a small dining table, a central island with bar stools or even a breakfast bar around the perimeter wall.

Placement of your kitchen appliances
Have you taken into consideration your appliances, where they're going to be placed and if you would like to interchange them all together before any kitchen fitting takes place? If you would like an outsized Argor cooker or one of the most recently introduced large American style refrigerators, don't forget that these units can take up some considerable space, so worth thinking it over about appliance position and sizes on your initial design and plan.

If you have read through the above information you may have already worked out that there are many things to consider when planning and designing a brand new kitchen for your home.
